What is Cancer

Cancer is second only to cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death in the Western world. Although Cancer is primarily a disease of the elderly with more than 60% of deaths from cancer occurring in those over the age of 65, cancer can strike even the youngest of children.
Cancer appears to occur when the growth of cells in the body is out of control and cells divide too rapidly. Cancer can develop in almost any organ or tissue, such as the lung, colon, breast, skin, bones, or nerve tissue.
Most common sites are:
Prostrate 24%
Breast 13%
Lung 13%
Colon and Rectum 9%
Bladder 3%
Uterus 2.5%
The cause of Cancer is believed to be a combination of genetic factors and outside carcinogens such as tobacco, viruses, infection, asbestos, vinyl chloride, inappropriate diet.
Cancer often has no specific symptoms, so it is important that you limit your risk factors and undergo appropriate cancer screening. The signs and symptoms will depend on where the cancer is, the size of the cancer, and how much it affects the nearby organs or structures.
If a cancer spreads (metastasizes), then symptoms may appear in different parts of the body. As a cancer grows, it begins to push on nearby organs, blood vessels, and nerves. If the cancer is in a critical area, such as certain parts of the brain, even the smallest tumor can cause early symptoms.
But sometimes cancers start in places where it does not cause any symptoms until the cancer has grown quite large. Pancreatic cancers, for example, do not usually grow large enough to be felt from the outside of the body. By the time a pancreatic cancer causes these signs or symptoms, it has usually reached an advanced stage.
A cancer may also cause symptoms common to many other problems, such as; fever, fatigue and weight loss. This may be because the cancer uses up much of the body's energy or it may cause the release of substances which affect metabolism.
Some lung cancers make hormone-like substances that affect blood calcium levels, affecting nerves and muscles and causing weakness and dizziness.
It is important to know what some of the general (non-specific) signs and symptoms of cancer are, but remember that having any of these does not mean that you have cancer.
Most cancers can be treated and some cured, depending on the specific type, location, and stage. The earlier the cancer is found, the better the prognosis.
A good example of the importance of finding cancer early is melanoma skin cancer. Skin cancer can be easy to remove if it has not grown deep into the skin, and the 5-year survival rate (percentage of people living at least 5 years after diagnosis) at this stage is nearly 100%.
Screening for breast cancer with mammograms has been shown to reduce the average stage of diagnosis of breast cancer in a population. Colorectal cancer can be detected through fecal occult blood testing and colonoscopy, which reduces both colon cancer incidence and mortality, presumably through the detection and removal of pre-malignant polyps. Similarly, cervical cytology testing (using the Pap smear) leads to the identification and excision of precancerous lesions.
Testicular self-examination is recommended for men beginning at the age of 15 years to detect testicular cancer.
SIGNS and SYMPTOMS
Pain may be an early symptom with some cancers such as bone cancers or testicular cancer.
Long-term constipation, diarrhea, or a change in the size of the stool may be a sign of colon cancer.
Pain with urination, blood in the urine, or a change in bladder function (such as more frequent or less frequent urination) could be related to bladder or prostate cancer.
Skin cancers may bleed and look like sores that do not heal.
A long-lasting sore in the mouth could be an oral cancer and should be dealt with right away, especially in patients who smoke, chew tobacco, or frequently drink alcohol.
Sores on the penis or vagina may either be signs of infection or an early cancer, and should not be overlooked.
Unusual bleeding can happen in either early or advanced cancer.
Blood in the sputum (phlegm) may be a sign of lung cancer.
Blood in the stool (or a dark or black stool) could be a sign of colon or rectal cancer.
Blood in the urine may be a sign of bladder or kidney cancer.
A bloody discharge from the nipple may be a sign of breast cancer.
Many cancers can be felt through the skin, mostly in the breast, testicle, lymph nodes (glands), and the soft tissues of the body. A lump or thickening may be an early or late sign of cancer.
While they commonly have other causes, indigestion or swallowing problems may be a sign of cancer of the esophagus, stomach, or pharynx (throat).
A cough that does not go away may be a sign of lung cancer.
A cancer may be suspected for a variety of reasons, but the definitive diagnosis of most malignancies must be confirmed by histological examination of the cancerous cells by a pathologist.
TREATMENT
Once diagnosed, cancer is usually treated with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Radiation therapy may be used to treat almost every type of solid tumor, including cancers of the brain, breast, cervix, larynx, lung, pancreas, prostate, skin, stomach, uterus, or soft tissue sarcomas.
Most forms of chemotherapy target all rapidly dividing cells and are not specific for cancer cells, although some degree of specificity may come from the inability of many cancer cells to repair DNA damage, while normal cells generally can.
Contemporary methods for generating an immune response against tumours include intravesical BCG immunotherapy for superficial bladder cancer, and use of interferons and other cytokines to induce an immune response in renal cell carcinoma and melanoma patients.
Pain medication, such as morphine and oxycodone, and anti-emetics, drugs to suppress nausea and vomiting, are very commonly used in patients with cancer-related symptoms. transmission and disease.
Advances in cancer research have made a vaccine designed to prevent cancer available. The vaccine protects against four HPV types, which together cause 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts.
The consensus on diet and cancer is that obesity increases the risk of developing cancer. The cancer-fighting components of food are also proving to be more numerous and varied than previously understood, so patients are increasingly being advised to consume fresh, unprocessed fruits and vegetables for maximal health benefits.

Conditions and Symptoms

Cancer can be defined as a state whereby the human cell goes trophoblastic. This is a process whereby the human cell tends to multiply uncontrollably. The affected part of the body has its cells grow, divide and multiply uncontrollably thereby forming a lump. Cancer affects the blood and organs that form blood thereby finding its way to the blood streams. It invades the nearby tissues and keeps spreading to all the parts of the body.
Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases ever known to the human race. Cancer is known to be a progressive disease. It is a disease that affects the human body cells and metabolism. Even though cancer of some parts of the body like the breast and lungs is very common, cancer can affect the eye or hair and most people don't even know this.
Human body is made up of microscopic living units which form all living organs in the body. The cells in the body organs usually grow and divide, especially during a healing process after the body is subjected to an injury. In the case of cancer, there is an abnormal growth where cells grows and divide at an alarming rate, spreading to other parts of the body. This continuous growth and division of the cells forms what is known as tumor. The growth can be malignant or benign. Malignant growth is the cancerous growth which can spread to other parts of the body while the benign tumor are not life threatening and can be removed.
There are a lot of symptoms of cancer depending on the kind. The most common ones are drastic loss of weight, tiredness and fatigue, pains and numbs in the affected part and constant infections.
Surgery is the major treatment used to remove the cancer tumor. However, the affected part may be removed in some cases depending on the stage of the cancer. After the treatment, a therapy to avoid the re- occurrence of the tumor follows. Therapy kills the remaining cancer cells left in the affected part after surgery. Therapy may be chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunotherapy.
Cancer can be avoided with constant exercise, good diet, proper weight watching, and avoiding smoking and drinking. Early detection of cancer is very important for quick treatment before it gets to the critical stage when radical treatment will be needed.

what are Causes of Cancer

Do you ever wonder what causes cancer? If so, then maybe you are now in search of the various facts regarding cancer. Well, cancer is plainly defined as the development and growth of strange cells in the body which normally affects different organs and tissues within the body. The uncontrolled development of the cells can actually lead to death if left untreated. As a matter of fact, there are about 200 forms of cancer in existence in these days. These cancer forms are still divided into different groups namely, sarcoma, myeloma, lymphoma, leukemia, and carcinoma. These groups may differ to one another but their causes are somewhat just the same.
Determining what causes cancer is essential so that you can have the chance to lower the risk of acquiring such a disease. In this regard, the following are some of the most common factors causing cancer which you ought to know:
• Environmental Factors: It is quite a common fact that lots of toxic substances and pollutants are present in the environment. Some of these are in fact the asbestos, benzene, cigarette smokes, exhausts from vehicles, as well as man-made or natural radiation. All of these substances and chemicals, according to medical specialists can without a doubt induce cancer.
• Genetic Factor: Another factor which has a great contribution to what causes cancer has something to do with the genetic factor. Generally, a genetic link can be identified if one's family history is assessed. Having one or more family relatives with cancer increases the probability of developing the disease too due to a mutated gene. Thus, if ever you have discovered that you have a copy of a cancer mutated gene then, you are significantly at a high risk of developing the said disease. Nonetheless, there is nothing to worry about because some specialists revealed that it is still probable to sustain a genetic tendency for developing cancer without really being afflicted by the disease at any point.
• Sun Exposure: The harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun are also one of the many factors to what causes cancer. Hence, overexposure to the sun is not that healthy and quite detrimental. So, the best thing which you can do is to always wear sun protection such as lotion or sun block every time you are going out under the sun. You have to make sure that your lotion has at least SPF 15 to reduce the infiltration of ultraviolet rays into the epidermis or the outer layer of the skin.
• Tobacco: Smoking is irrefutably a bad habit since it increases your risk for obtaining cancer. Tobacco which can be mostly found in cigarettes does contain at least 250 dangerous chemicals which are believed to be cancer causing agents. For this reason, it is advisable for you to quit smoking and have a healthy lifestyle.
Indeed, there are a number of factors to what causes cancer. You need to be familiar with these factors so that you can protect yourself and stay away from the threats of having cancer. After all, you certainly do want to have a healthy life, right?

What Causes Cancer?

By MOAAZ SIDDIQ

Whether you have cancer and would like to treat it, or want to avoid developing it, this article will explain exactly what causes the devastating illness.
The harsh truth about cancer is that as many as 90% of all cases are caused by environmental changes that humans have made and created, ranging from what we eat to what we drink and what we breathe.
This is hardly surprising when we consider the state of the planet because of the changes we have made - if we are concerned about global warming, we can't expect that there will be no similar effect to ourselves.
Our diets are going downhill year by year, and we have addictions to cigarettes, illegal drugs, pharmaceutical drugs, alcohol, and more.
All of these things can act as either carcinogens - which are capable of causing cancer; or cancer promoters - which accelerate the growth of tumours.
The chemicals and pollutions that are present throughout the planet are not easily avoidable, but there are some changes you can make that will help treat or avoid the illness.
Just by switching to a healthy, balanced optimum diet you can reduce your risk of cancer by over 40%. In fact, the European Commission estimates that a quarter of a million lives could be saved every single year through dietary changes alone!
Furthermore, at least 85% of cancers are associated with factors including diet but also smoking and alcohol.
Other risk factors include:
  • free radical damage
  • medical drugs
  • industrial products
  • food additives
  • radiation
  • UV light
  • stress
  • pollution
  • sexual activity

Causes of Cancer

By MOAAZ SIDDIQ
What is Cancer?
The term 'Cancer' refers to any one of a large number of diseases in which a group of cells show an abnormal development with an uncontrollable division beyond the normal limits. They have the ability to intrude and destroy adjacent body tissues. Cancer cells have the ability to spread throughout the body via lymph and blood, thus destroying the healthy tissues (process known as invasion).
All the cancers begin in the basic unit of life - the cell. Normal cells in a body have the ability to grow and divide in a controlled way to produce more cells as per needed to keep the body healthy. When the cells become old or damaged, they die and get replaced with new cells. If and when this normal process gets disturbed then cancer gets initiated. In a normal process, old cells die after a certain period of time and are replaced by new cells. But in a cancerous state, new cells keep on developing while old cells do not die when they should thus leading to a mass of tissue known as a tumor.
There are two types of tumors:
1. Benign tumors:
A benign tumor is not cancerous. It can often be removed and usually does not come back. These cells grow in a limited, non-aggressive manner. They do not invade the surrounding tissues and neither spread to other parts of the body, i.e., do not metastasize.
2. Malignant tumors:
A malignant tumor is cancerous. Cells in these tumors invade the surrounding tissues and spread to other parts of the body.
Causes of Cancer
There are certain risk factors which might lead to cancer development. These are:
• Growing Older
• Tobacco
• Sunlight
• Ionizing radiation
• Certain chemicals and other substances
• Some viruses and bacteria
• Certain hormones
• Family history of cancer
• Alcohol
• Poor diet, lack of physical activity, or being overweight
Most of these risk factors can be avoided, while some others, such as family history, cannot be avoided. Wherever and whenever possible, steps can be taken in staying away from known risk factors.
Keep in mind that:
• Not everything causes cancer.
• Cancer is not caused by an injury, such as a bump or bruise.
• Cancer is not contagious. Although being infected with certain viruses or bacteria may increase the risk of some types of cancer, no one can catch cancer from another person.
• Having one or more risk factors does not mean that you will get cancer. Most people who have risk factors never develop cancer.
• Some people are more sensitive than others to the known risk factors.
Read on for more information about some of the common risk factors for cancer:
Growing Older
Age is an important risk factor for cancer. Most cancers occur in people over the age of 65. But people of all ages, including children, can get cancer, too.
Tobacco
Tobacco use highly increases the risk of getting cancer, either it be directly using the tobacco or being around tobacco smoke (secondhand smoke). Smokers are more likely than nonsmokers to develop cancer of the mouth, the organs related to respiratory system and the digestive system. They also are more likely to develop leukemia - cancer that starts in blood cells.
Quitting tobacco reduces the risk of cancer (though cancer risk is generally lowest among those who have never used tobacco). For those who have already had cancer, quitting reduces the chances of cancer recurrence.
Sunlight
Natural source of Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the sun. Other sources are sunlamps and tanning booths. It causes early aging of the skin and skin damage that can lead to skin cancer.
Doctors encourage people of all ages to limit their time in the sun and to avoid other sources of UV radiation:
• Try to avoid exposure to the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Stay in the shade if you have to go outside.
• Cover exposed areas of the body.
• Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses with lenses that absorb UV.
• Use sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15. They may help prevent skin cancer.
• Stay away from sunlamps and tanning booths. They are no safer than sunlight.
Ionizing Radiation
Ionizing radiation can cause cell damage that leads to cancer. This radiation comes from rays that enter the Earth's atmosphere from outer space, radioactive fallout, radon gas, x-rays, and other sources.
Radioactive fallout comes from accidents at nuclear power plants or from the production, testing, or use of atomic weapons. People exposed to this fallout may have an increased risk of cancer.
Radon is an invisible, odour-less, tasteless radioactive gas. People working in mines may be exposed to radon.
Another common source of radiation is through medical procedures. Doctors use low-dose radiations for x-rays and high-dose radiations for radiation therapy to treat cancer. The risk of cancer from low-dose x-rays is extremely small as compared to radiation therapy. For both, the benefit nearly always outweighs the small risk.
Talk to your doctor or dentist about the need for each x-ray. Also ask for shields to protect parts of the body that are not in the picture.
Certain Chemicals and Other Substances
Studies show that exposure to asbestos, benzene, benzidine, cadmium, nickel, or vinyl chloride in the workplace can cause cancer. People who have exposure to these things in their workplaces - like painters, construction workers, and those in the chemical industry - have an increased risk of cancer.
Always tend to follow instructions and safety tips when handling harmful substances both at work and at home. Also be careful at home when handling pesticides, used engine oil, paint, solvents, and other chemicals.
Some Viruses and Bacteria
Being infected with certain viruses or bacteria may increase the risk of developing cancer:
• Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) is the main cause of cervical cancer along with some other types of cancer.
• Hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses might develop into liver cancer.
• Human T-cell leukemia/lymphoma virus (HTLV-1)greatly increases the risk of lymphoma and leukemia.
• Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) - commonly known as AIDS. People having HIV infection have a greater risk of cancer - lymphoma and a rare cancer called Kaposi's sarcoma.
• Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been linked to an increased risk of lymphoma.
• Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8) is a cause of Kaposi's sarcoma.
• Helicobacter pylorican cause stomach ulcers. It also can cause stomach cancer and lymphoma in the stomach lining.
Certain Hormones
In some health issues, doctors recommend hormone therapy. However, studies show that hormone therapy can cause serious side effects: increases the risk of breast cancer, heart attack, stroke, or blood clots.
Family History of Cancer
A normal cell may become a cancer cell after a series of gene changes occur. Some gene changes that increase the risk of cancer are passed from parent to child. These changes are present at birth in all cells of the body.
It is uncommon for cancer to run in a family. However, several cases of the same cancer type in a family may be linked to inherited gene changes, which increase the chance of developing cancers. However, environmental factors may also be involved. But mostly, multiple cases of cancer in a family are just a matter of chance.
Talk to your doctor if you think you may have a pattern of a certain type of cancer in your family. Your doctor may suggest ways to try to reduce your risk of cancer and also may suggest exams for early detection of cancer.
Ask your doctor about genetic testing to check certain inherited gene changes that might increase the chance of developing cancer. But remember, inheriting a gene change does not mean that you will definitely develop cancer. It means that you have an increased chance of developing the disease.
Poor Diet, Lack of Physical Activity, or Being Overweight
People who have a poor diet, do not have enough physical activity, or are overweight may be at increased risk of several types of cancer.

reasons of cancer due to food

In this section, I will reveal some possible cancer causing food. It is important to obtain knowledge about the kind of food we all eat on a daily basis. Therefore after reading this section, I hope your attention shifts toward being more health conscious. Cancer is a threat to all of us and we need to take it seriously.
What Happens When You Change The Structure Of Food?
The food we consume especially protein will denature after it is cooked, baked, boiled, and fried. The word denatures means to change the structure (for protein the amino-acids change their structure) or reshape the food particle. Unfortunately when the food is denatured some of its components become mutagenic. As a result, our bodies have a difficult time trying to break down these mutagenic food particulates. At this point hopefully there are antioxidants in place that can pick some of these free radicals that are released from these mutagenic particulates. Free radicals are responsible for starting the process of cancer by damaging our cells. More on cancer and other diseases are located on my website located in the resource box below.
What Are Some Cancer Causing Food (meat)?
Foods that increase cancer risk the most are prepared foods. Here are a few examples of meat that causes cancer:
Fish- this particular meat can also contain mercury, which it great amounts can be a pre-requisite for cancer.
Most Fat-
Cholesterol- Example of this is eggs.
Iodide- Examples of this is sea fish, and mollusks.
What Are Some Cancer Causing Food (vegetables) ?
Vegetables are up to 50% less mutagenic than meats, but still have some properties that can cause cancer. Any vegetables that contain vitamin c, e and Beta-Carotene actively bind to radicals. These antioxidants in great excess can inhibit the useful functions of radicals, like decomposing tumor cells. Radicals can also destroy mutagenic substances from cigarette smoke.
In order to reduce your chances of coming down with cancer, consuming more uncooked fruits, vegetables and whole grains should stem off the affect of cancer causing food.

different kinds of cancer

Cancer is one of those words that everyone dreads. There are various types of cancer and any type of cancer is really bad news. All types of cancer are life threatening (this is what makes them so dreadful). Even with all that medical advancement we still don't have a complete cure for all types of cancer. However, there is continuous research going-on for finding better treatments for cancer and to increase our knowledge on cancer in general. Though there are treatments currently available for some types of cancer, these treatments work only if the cancer is discovered in early stages.
Types of cancer
Generally, cancer is named after the part of the body in which it originates. Most common types of cancer are breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. Though, this might vary across geographies etc, these four types of cancer seem to be the more notorious ones. The other types of cancer include: cervical cancer, pancreatic cancer, bone cancer, brain cancer, skin cancer, stomach cancer, bladder cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer and testicular cancer. Besides this, cancer is also classified as primary and secondary based on whether it originated in that body part itself or spread from another body part.
Diagnosis of various types of cancer
It's not just the treatment of various types of cancer that is difficult (or impossible) but also their detection (or diagnosis). In fact, correct and timely diagnosis is the first step towards treatment of any type of cancer. The earlier you are able to detect cancer, the more effective is its treatment.
Treatment of various types of cancer
Though the treatment of all types of cancers is not possible, some types of cancer can be treated if they are diagnosed early enough e.g. detection of malignancy when it has just started to develop. The treatment for cancer is carried out in many different ways. These range from surgery to radiotherapy, chemotherapy and biologic therapies. Hormone therapies are also gaining popularity for treatment of some types of cancer. Transplantation of bone marrow and many other new procedures for treatment of cancer are being constantly tried and analysed in order to get a fail-proof treatment for cancer.
Research on diagnosis on various types of cancer
The huge number of deaths that are caused every year by various types of cancer has lead to a lot of focus being put into the research on diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer. Meanwhile, we can just hope that there will soon be a complete cure available for the most common types of cancer (if not all types of cancer).

some kinds of cancer

There are nearly as many cancer types as there are parts in the human body. Cancer is not just a single disease, but rather a class of diseases in which the common denominator is abnormal cell growth.
Cancer can start in a variety of places. For example, there are bone, breast, colon, lung, skin, cervical, prostate, esophageal, and thyroid cancer just to name a few. Each of these cancers affects a different area of the body and some will require a different treatment plan than others. While the body part affected and the subsequent treatment plan might be different, patient often experience the same questions, the same emotions, and the same challenges.
All patients, regardless of where the disease starts, fear the spread of their cancer. Certain types are more prone to spread to other parts of the body or metastasize. This can make treatment all the more difficult. However, no matter what the type may be, when a it spreads beyond its original starting point its name does not change. For example breast cancer that spreads to the surrounding tissue or bones is still called breast cancer, even though it now appears elsewhere in the body.
Some common types and cancers for which you can find additional information on our site include bone, breast, stomach, colon, lung, skin, ovarian, thyroid, uterine and prostate cancer, among many others.

Most Common kinds of cancer

Cancer is a class of diseases where a group of cells display uncontrolled growth. Cells are aggressive, invasive and metastatic. These malignant properties of cancer differentiate it from being tumors which are limited in their growth.
1. Breast cancer
This disease occurs when cells that are abnormal grow out of control in one or both breasts. They can also invade nearby tissues and form a mass (malignant tumor). In 2005, it caused 502,000 deaths worldwide (7% of cancer deaths; almost 1% of all deaths. IT is about 100 times as frequent among women as among men. More than 80% of breast cancer cases are discovered when the woman feels a lump. Indications of it other than a lump may include changes in breast size or shape, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, or spontaneous single-nipple discharge.
2. Lung Cancer
This occurs when abnormal cells grow out of control in the lung. They can form tumors and invade nearby tissue. It is the leading cause of all cancer deaths in men and second most common in women. It is responsible for 1.3 million deaths worldwide annually. The main cause of lung cancer is of course smoking but being exposed to asbestos, arsenic, radioactive dust, or radon can increase your chances of getting lung cancer. Early lung cancer unfortunately does not have any symptoms but in advanced stages this disease may effect how the lungs are working. The first signs and symptoms of it are: shortness of breath, coughing (including coughing up blood), and weight loss. It may spread to the chest and then to other parts of the body.
3. Colorectal cancer (colon cancer)
This occurs when cells that are abnormal grow in your colon or rectum. These cells grow together and form tumors. With 655,000 deaths over the world per year, it is the third most frequent types of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the Western world. When it is found early then it is easily treated and often cured. But usually it is not found early and that is why it is so high in the list. Fairly simple screening tests can prevent this disease, but fewer than half of people older than 50 are screened. The symptoms of it are usually vague, like bleeding, weight loss, and fatigue. Local (bowel) symptoms are rare until the tumor has grown to a large size.
4. Prostate cancer
This is a disease in which cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. The prostate sits just below the bladder. In young men, the prostate is about the size of a walnut. It usually grows larger as you grow older. This disease may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, problems during sexual intercourse, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms. It develops most frequently in men over fifty. This cancer can occur only in men, as the prostate is exclusively of the male reproductive tract.

New Types of Cancer

People have to worry about a lot of afflictions in our modern age. These health issues are at the top of our priority list. Some of the health afflictions these days are so terrifying simply because we can't prevent them. We are all afraid of things we can't prevent. Even pondering about these issues is so frightening for some people.
However, avoiding these health issues will obviously get us nowhere. The numerous types of cancer are great examples. In my opinion, there is really no point in blocking this dismal topic out of our minds. Since we can't avoid them, we should do our best to deal with them like we do every other health affliction. We have to search high and low for cures and treatments that are better than the ones we currently have.
There's a good chance that you know someone who has cancer. Well, at least the odds say that you probably do. In my life, I have known a few individuals that have grappled with several types of cancer. My uncle on my father's side suffered from kidney cancer. The doctors deducted that his drinking problems were probably the culprits that caused his cancer.
It's terrible to think about these health issues, but yet it's certainly a reality for many people. The problem is that no one can really avoid some types of cancer. You can see this just by taking a look around at all the idiots still smoking. I'm not really sure that they realize that smoking clearly and without a doubt leads to lung cancer. You would think that folks would avoid the obvious types of cancers with all the health problems floating around these days.
This is the perfect time to get educated regarding the many types of cancer. You can visit your local library that is full of research on types of cancer. You can also opt to do it the modern way. You can simply get on your old laptop and see what's up. There is a simple reason for gaining this knowledge. You should know and do the things that you can do to decrease your chances of acquiring any types of cancer.

Three Major kinds of Cancer

Cancer is a disease that can affect any of the body's cells. It starts to develop when the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in your body's cells becomes disrupted or damaged. DNA contains specific instructions that tell your cells when to divide and multiply which allows them to grow in a controlled manner. If the DNA becomes disrupted then these instructions become distorted your cells start to grow in a rapid and uncontrollable way. This uncontrolled growth causes a lump to form which is referred to as a tumor. This tumor can ultimately become cancerous and start to affect other areas of the body. In this article I will be discussing three of the major types of cancer in greater detail.
1) CARCINOMAS:- Carcinomas are the most prominent type of cancer accounting for around 85% of all diagnoses. They develop in the epithelial cells that line the body and its organs. Carcinomas can be further grouped into four sub-types; squamous cell carcinomas (which affect the lining of the mouth and the airways), adenocarcinomas (which affect the lining of the glands), transitional cell carcinoma (which affects the lining of the bladder) and basal cell carcinomas (which affect the skin).
2) LEUKAEMIAS & LYMPHOMAS:- These types of cancer represent around 7% of cancer cases. They are grouped together because they both develop in the cells of the immune system. Leukaemias develop in the cells of the myeloid system which protects your body from bacteria and parasites. Lymphomas develop in the lymphatic system which help your body fight infection.
3) SARCOMAS:- Sarcomas are one of the rarest types of cancer accounting for less than 1% of all diagnoses. They develop in the connective tissues of the body and can be further divided into three main sub-types; bone carcinomas (which affect the bones), gastro-intestinal stromal tumours (which affect the stomach and the intestine) and soft tissue sarcomas (which affect soft connective tissues such as muscle and fat).
Cancer is a horrible disease which very often turns out to be fatal. Unfortunately, many people know very little about this condition and how it develops. I hope this article has helped you learn a little more about this disease and shed some light on the various types of cancer and the cells they affect.

The kinds of Cancer Associated With Asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring fibrous mineral, known to Greeks as "miracle mineral" due to its durability, flexibility, and resistance to heat and chemical damages. Asbestos is composed of long and thin fibers that become airborne when damaged and disturbed. In the United States, the mineral is used in numerous industries and about 3,000 commercial products including: vinyl tiles, caulk, roofing and ceiling tiles, brakes shores, textiles, insulation, cement, and many more. It is used as fireproofing and insulating material in factories, schools, homes, and ships.
What are the Types of Cancer Caused by Asbestos?
Despite the many uses of asbestos, it is now considered as hazardous to public health. Studies have finally found out heavy and prolonged exposure to asbestos causes several serious illnesses to people.
Mesothelioma. This is a rare type of cancer that is almost exclusively caused by asbestos exposure. Even though the incidence rate has decreased in recent years, about 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed every year in the US.
There are three types of mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma develops in the lining of the lungs and considered as the most common. Peritoneal and pericardial esothelioma affect the membrane that surrounds the abdominal cavity and the heart, respectively.
The prognosis is poor because condition is often diagnosed in the advanced stages; mainly because symptoms are typically late to appear. There is no cure but different treatment options are available.
Lung Cancer. This disease is not directly linked to asbestos exposure; but the risk gets higher when combined with smoking.
Laryngeal Cancer. There is some evidence that links asbestos as cause of cancer of the larynx (or voice box).
Kidney Cancer. Many studies have shown that asbestos may also cause this type of cancer.
Other cancerous illnesses include: colon, intestinal, esophageal, and gallbladder.
Who is at Risk for Asbestos-Related Cancer?
People who are exposed to asbestos are holding high-risk occupations like: construction and demolition, shipbuilding and shipyard work, drywall removal and installation, auto brake repair, firefighting, and fireproofing.
Asbestos is not harmful when still whole and intact. When disturbed and damaged, it releases microscopic fibers into air. When inhaled or ingested by humans, these fibers get lodged in the tissues and cause inflammation that can lead to malignant tumor.

some difficult types of cancer

Cancer is a nasty disease and that is probably the biggest understatement of the year. One of the hardest things about trying to nail down a treatment and a subsequent cure for cancer is that there are so many different types and they affect so many different parts of the body.
When is comes to fund raising in general and cancer research fundraising in particular is that many people have good intentions but don't really have a way to pull off such a huge undertaking. Things like 5K runs are usually organized by different survivor chapters. There are also different companies that will give a portion of their profits to specific charities during specific times of the year. This can be in conjunction with the holidays but can also be in conjunction with homecomings and various sports events.
Simple types of fundraisers can be accomplished with jars in stores with a picture or blurb about what the donation would be used for. These are especially effective in smaller regions and kids can get involved and feel like they are really doing something to help people affected by cancer. It will not take too much effort to find someone a child knows who has cancer, unfortunately.

Natural Treatment is also usefull For Cancer

Finding reliable information about a natural treatment for cancer requires a lot of careful research. This is not because there are so few available, but because there are so many. Furthermore, your research efforts will be complicated by what I call the "hidden agenda" of some sources of information. I know this from first hand experience. Cancer treatment is one of the most controversial topics within the field of healthcare, and the battle lines have not shifted significantly in the last 100 years.
First of all, why would you want a natural treatment for cancer? Don't the mainstream medical treatments work effectively? Well, that depends on whom you choose to believe. According to mainstream medical sources, cancer is a disease that is not yet fully understood, and, to date cannot be cured. It can, however, be "managed" by some combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, especially if detected early and treated promptly.
Alternative health researchers tell a much different story, however. They say that the current authorized treatments are not only ineffective, they are often dangerous. For example, Prof. Hardin Jones, Ph.D. asserts, "My studies have proved conclusively that untreated cancer victims live up to four times longer than treated individuals. If one has cancer and opts to do nothing at all, he will live longer and feel better than if he undergoes radiation, chemotherapy or surgery, other than when used in immediate life-threatening situations." (1956 Transactions of the N.Y. Academy of Medical Sciences, vol. 6.)
I told you this is a controversial subject, especially for those who face the choice of which treatment to undergo. So, here is something to consider. What treatment do you think an oncologist would choose for his or her own personal treatment? Researchers at McGill Cancer Center (Canada) surveyed 118 doctors, all experts on lung cancer, to determine the level of trust they had in the therapies that they were recommending for their patients. For the survey, the doctors were told to imagine that they themselves had been diagnosed with lung cancer. They were asked which of the six current experimental therapies they would choose.
Sixty-four of the seventy-nine doctors who returned the survey (+75%) said that they would not consent to undergo any treatment containing cis-platinum, which is one of the common chemotherapy drugs they use on their patients. Furthermore, fifty-eight of the respondents believed that all of the experimental therapies mentioned in the survey were not acceptable because of their ineffectiveness and the elevated level of toxicity of chemotherapy. (Reported by Philip Day in his book, Cancer: Why We're Still Dying To Know The Truth, Credence Publications, 2000)
What do these doctors know that they are not telling their patients? Perhaps they have done their own research and discovered the same thing that Dr. Allen Levin learned. "The majority of the cancer patients in this country die because of chemotherapy, which does not cure breast, colon or lung cancer. This has been documented for over a decade and nevertheless doctors still utilize chemotherapy to fight these tumors." (The Healing of Cancer by Allen Levin, MD, UCSF, Marcus Books, 1990).
If the standard protocols are in fact dangerous to your health, what options do you have?  Well fortunately, today, because of the Internet, you can find a great deal of information that had been suppressed for many years.  You can now learn about the lives of many brave pioneers in the field of medicine, who explored alternatives outside the mainstream, industry funded confines, and discovered natural treatments and effective cures for cancer.
However, I must warn you that you will need to dig deep to get the real story, because many of these men, and women, have been censured and discredited because their work poses a threat to the pharmaceutical industry's patented treatments.  In fact, in deciding upon any treatment for cancer, you'll need to sort the facts from the hype on both sides.
Some of the most effective natural cancer treatments are based on the research of Otto Warburg, who won the Nobel Prize in 1931 for his groundbreaking discovery of the role of oxygen in curing cancer. He is quoted as saying in his lectures, "All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen - a rule without exception." He also warned, "Deprive a cell 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous."
This breakthrough greatly expanded the field of oxygen therapy that goes back to the early nineteenth century. However, proponents of oxygen therapy face many obstacles to providing this effective treatment for cancer in the US. The biggest obstacle is the restrictive control of the medical profession, that insists on prohibitively expensive clinical trials before any therapy is approved. Of course every proposed therapy needs to be evaluated carefully. However, the costs of the currently required trials, which can amount to hundreds of millions of dollars, ensure that only patented pharmaceutical treatments will ever receive the necessary funding for approval.
For this reason, you need to look to countries that allow more freedom in healthcare choices to discover how oxygen therapies are being used with great success. For example, "At Hospital Santa Monica (in Mexico) we have pioneered in the administration of hydrogen peroxide to treat cancer and other conditions. Our doctors have administered over 40,000 infusions of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) intravenously and have treated thousands of patients with oral doses. Other clinics offering alternative cancer treatment are now using hydrogen peroxide routinely, and some physicians in the U.S. are experimenting with it." (Alternatives In Cancer Therapy, by Ross Pelton, Ph.D.)
For those who must choose a cancer treatment within a restrictive regulatory environment, the good news is that some forms of oxygen therapy can be self administered at home without the need for a prescription. There are sources of information that can provide guidance and support for those who choose to explore this well documented, and time tested, natural treatment for cancer.

Some Treatments For Cancer

We all know that cancer is a serious and a life-threatening disease. When the cancer has already reached its later stage, fighting it isn't an easy thing to say or an easy thing to do. Like any other disease, controlling cancer is just like being a soldier. You need to have the proper weapons and techniques to

able to fight it. Although it is a long shot, there are so many treatments for cancer that can either control it or at least postpone the life of the person.
Treating cancer these days is much easier than 50 years ago because the treatments for cancer have been developed. Medical technology has improved so much that doctors have become more confident that cancer can be treated. Each treatment would depend on the stage of the cancer as well as the condition of the patient's body.
One of the treatments for cancer is surgery which doctors view as a very important method for curing cancer. This treatment is done by removing the cancer in the body or sometimes removing the part that is affected by cancer in order to prevent the spreading of the cells to the other parts of the body.
Chemotherapy is another treatment which has also been popular because it has been used by doctors for so many years already and people already associate this treatment to cancer. This is done by using drugs or medicine to kill the cancer cells inside the body and interfere in the growth of the cells. However, this treatment could cause severe pain to the patient.
There are some cancers that are dependent on the hormones in order to grow in certain areas of the body. With this, another therapy has been invented and it is the use of hormones to manipulate the growth of the cancer cells. This is what we call hormonal therapy. Steroids, casodex and provera are some examples of the medications used to treat cancer through this therapy.
Another therapy is what we call radiation therapy. This kind of therapy uses radiation to destroy the cancer cells and the radiation are in high doses. The main purpose of this therapy is to disrupt the growth of the cancer cells and to improve the quality of life of the person.
We have to understand though that there is no 100% assurance that cancer cells will totally be eliminated when undergoing these treatments for cancer. These treatments only guarantee that the lives of the patients will be prolonged and at least ease the pain suffered by the patients because we all know that cancer is a painful disease. There are alternative treatments for curing cancer but they are not usually practiced by doctors and oncologists. Other ways to help the body from recovering from this disease are to maintain a healthy lifestyle, eating the right kind of food and religiously going to the doctor.

common Treatments For Cancer

The treatments that are used by doctors to cure cancer are very similar to the torture in the middle-ages. Why do cancer patients have to go through such pain and suffering? It is strange for a normal person to understand why we use treatments for curing cancer that do more harm than good. The answer to it of course is politics.
People who use chemotherapy or radiation go through slow torture and and all the chemicals and radiation slowly kills the body. It is very hard to see someone you love go through this kind of a treatment for even for a day. But very often this torture goes on for years until the inevitable happens - death. These treatments are also very expensive and when a person you love is dying from this disease, someone is making a fortune from all the money they get from all the dying cancer patients. Not only are people being tortured, they are paying to get tortured. But anyway lets take a look at the so called "conventional" cancer treatments - surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
Surgery
If you have for example breast, colon, prostate spleen or any other common cancers then a tumor is found usually. This happens to around 90% of people every single year. Then the surgeon or the oncologist suggests removing it with surgery. The truth is that you will be worse off for having the surgery, even if you make a recovery. Surgical removal may often cause metastasis that may not have occurred otherwise. Even a very small cancer tumor contains billions of cancer cells and even if a 99% of the tumor is removed, your cancer is very likely to recur. Surgery should be the very last option in your list. There are hundreds of different natural treatments that are proven to work.
Chemotherapy
You can also call it poisoning of the cells with cytotoxic drugs. That[ what it is. Chemotherapy uses a mix of toxic drugs to poison the cells as they divide. The cancer cells are dividing constantly to form new malignant cancer cells. But billions of healthy cells are also dividing constantly. The problem is that the chemotherapy drugs can´t tell the difference between healthy cells and normal cells. The reason why so many cancer patients lose their hair is that, the fastest dividing cells are in your hair. All the healthy cells that are in your organs for example are killed. The destruction of the healthy cells causes enormous pain for the patients.
Radiation
The third conventional treatment for cancer is radiation. For some tumors radiation is effective in reducing the size of the tumor, but that is it. The side effects are very significant most of the time. Like with chemotherapy radiation also does not distinguish between cancer cells and normal cells. Patients who have had radiation or chemotherapy never recover the antioxidant levels in their bodies.
Why are the doctors not using alternative treatments then, instead of these brutal treatments? Well most of the doctors are well meaning, they just get caught up in the system. The money that is got from chemotherapy mostly drives the whole system. And we all know that money makes the world go round.

important facts to Treatments For Cancer

By MOAAZ SIDDIQ

Cancer has become a localized disease. An orthodox doctor in a traditional way aggressively attacks cancer by cutting out the tumor and flooding the body with toxic drugs. Their belief is that this is the best way to destroy the tumor. But often the cancer is still present and spreads everywhere. They fail to understand that cancer is a systemic disease and it spreads all over the body. Tumor is just the symptom for cancer and there are various alternative treatments/therapies focus on rebuilding the natural immunity of the body. By rebuilding the natural immunities, the ability to destroy cancer cells on its own gets strengthened.
Chemotherapy, Radiation and Surgery are the three proven methods for treating cancer. These methods may actually shorten life in many instances. All these methods of treatment have demoralizing side effects and only acts as a treatment for symptoms. The probability of recurrence of cancer is high. These therapies at times may be necessary for rare forms of cancer and the early stage of the disease. It has been observed that cancer is the second most dreadful disease in United States of America and most of the cancer patients die of chemotherapy.
Now there are dozens of alternative cancer treatments available. Each of which works only on a minority of patients who try it. There is no best treatment for certain type of cancer. The doctors/medical consultants are the one who are entitled to identify the best treatment method for a patient depending on the type of cancer and the stage of the cancer. Conventionally doctors suggest the newest treatment available. But this is completely wrong because not all the patients suffer from similar cancer and the stage of cancer may vary from person to person. Now patients themselves opt for the alternative treatment of cancer as the cost involved in it is less and the recurrence of the disease is much less compared to the conventional way. One should not choose a particular type of treatment just because it worked for a friend. Out of all the alternative treatments available like ACUPUNCTURE, AROMATHERAPY, BIOFEEDBACK, EXERCISE, HYPNOSIS, MASSAGE THERAPY, MEDITATION, MUSIC THERAPY, RELAXATION TECHNIQUES, TAI CHI, YOGA, one can choose any of these depending on the type of disease and stage of the disease.

Chemotherapy

Cancer is one of the dreaded diseases since time immemorial. As noticed, when a family member is diagnosed to have a certain type of cancer, the whole family is greatly affected and of course grieve for what their loved one is experiencing. That is why prevention of cancer is undertaken and reminded on every individual so as not to experience the effects of this medical problem. However, when you are diagnosed with cancer, it can be treated especially when discovered at an early stage. There are a few effective methods on how this medical condition is treated.
Chemotherapy is one of the few cancer treatment modalities. It is a systemic form of treatment. The goal in its use is to destroy the greatest number of cancer cells possible without irreversibly damaging normal cells, while producing minimal structural and functional abnormalities. The progress in cancer survival rates can be attributed to the developments in surgery and radiation therapy and to an expansion in the use of chemotherapy alone or in the conjunction with surgery and radiation therapy.
The effects of chemotherapy however do not only include death of cancer cells but also of normal cells. First of all, this treatment of cancer destroys rapidly growing cells. Next, it interferes with the complex biological processes by which cells grow and divide. Lastly, it affects cells with a high rate of proliferation. These include not only the cancer cells but also the cells of the bone marrow, mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract and also hair follicles of the body.
There are four indications for this kind of cancer treatment. First of all, adjuvant chemotherapy is initiated early in the course of cancer when micrometastasis are suspected. For instance, women with breast cancer who have positive axillary lymph nodes at the time of surgery often receive this kind of therapy for 6 months to a year. Curative chemotherapy is administered with the expectation of eradication of the cancers like leukemia, lymphomas, and testicular cancer.
Chemotherapy for the control of cancer is the reason much of this treatment is given. Although it may not eradicate the cancer, control of the disease process may be possible for an extended period of time. Lastly, palliative treatment is given to control symptoms causing impairment of functioning. It can decrease the bulk of the cancer and improve the quality of survival.
This kind of treatment of cancer can be given as a single agent. However, combination chemotherapy is the most common approach in which variety of drugs with different actions affects the cells at different phases of the cell cycle. Combinations are designed to increase the effectiveness against cancer cells while not increasing toxicities to normal tissue and it delay or prevent emergence of clones of cancer cells that are resistant to specific drugs.
Details of how chemotherapy is administered are very important. Information regarding specific drugs must include about how it is administered, metabolized and excreted. If your body and the functions of different organs are inadequate, greater toxicities can occur. Therefore, when chemotherapy is indicated, dosages must be decreased if bone marrow, renal or liver function are compromised.
